Global Goods Partners is a nonprofit, fair trade international development organization dedicated to promoting social and economic justice by providing grants focused on sustainable community development within the community based organizations we work with.
Global Goods Partners grants provide support for our community based partners to implement critically important development projects in the areas of health care, education, economic development, women’s empowerment and civil society.
For this fiscal year 2024-2025, we awarded three grants, totaling $3000.
Sabahar in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia received a grant for financial literacy training. The purpose of this grant is to provide intensive financial literacy training to approximately 20 women who hand-spin cotton thread for Sabahar products. Women in Self Employment (WISE) will be the local training organization that provides individual training over three consecutive days with regular follow-up evaluations and support throughout the year.
UPDATE: We received the following update from Kathy at Sabahar on 7/27/25:
"We just wanted to let you know that the 20 women have completed their financial training last week. They did GREAT!!! Everyone was impressed with their ability to understand the concepts and enthusiasm for the training. We will be sending a report soon about the women and the training. We will also be doing a social media post and will mention Global Goods Partners. Thanks again for this opportunity for such deserving women."
Nirjala Craft in Kathmandu, Nepal received a grant for infrastructure improvements. Nirjala Craft will use the grant to purchase six new wet-felting tables, replacing the old ones that have greatly deteriorated and are no longer usable. In addition, the grant will cover the cost of two new sewing machines, to keep up with production and the high standards for quality control.
UPDATE: on a 7/25/25 call with Nirjala and Lunibha our Director of Production received the following update:
"Nirjala and Lunibha let us know that they received the felting tables last week and the artisans were so excited they were jumping up and down. They should receive the new sewing machines early next week. They said they are so grateful and wanted to let us know how much they appreciate these tools."
Nuptse Craft in Kathmandu, Nepal received a grant for wastewater management. Nuptse Craft, a recent member of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO), plans to implement a wastewater filtration system. In the felting process, Nuptse uses A-ZO free wool with general soap and natural water. It was suggested by the WFTO to use an improved, more environmentally sound wastewater management process before draining the water into the sewage system. This new wastewater filtration system will be installed on the Nuptse Craft premises.
