Since 1995, Algodones Mayas has been working with local women artisans with the goal of deepening and preserving traditional weaving skills and the rich culture of textile production in Guatemala. Organized into self-structured cooperative groups, Alogodones Mayas weavers are known for producing intricate pieces from locally grown materials. Dedicated to helping women advance economically and personally, Algodones Mayas reinvests 60% of its profits in training and other support for artisans, including financing the purchase of looms so women can weave in their homes, and securing income producing work that enables weavers to provide better health care and education to their families.
