Confidence-building, female solidarity, and economic independence are central elements of Alma de los Andes’ mission. This Bolivian non-profit organization, whose name means “Spirit of the Andes” in English, provides hundreds of impoverished indigenous women from rural and urban areas with skills training and job opportunities, as well as healthcare and education, so that they may recognize their right and potential to improve their quality of life. Women are provided with safe housing and childcare support while they work or take training courses. Artisans take pride in their work, and knit products that are environmentally friendly and representative of indigenous Bolivian cultures.
