The Story Behind the Product: Our Amber and Orchid Scented Candle
Is there a better way to spend a summer night than relaxing with a soothing scented candle? Our Amber and Orchid Scented Candle is the perfect addition to a summer night in, but is also the result of a special collaboration between two artisan communities.
Rose Ann Hall Designs (RAHD) created the vessel using a traditional form of glass etching called grabado. RAHD is located in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, and focuses on providing its artisans with a steady source of income while reviving grabado as an art form. Along with technical skill training, RAHD offers educational and life skills programming for its members, including several with physical disabilities that has prevented them from being employed in the past.
The vessel itself is made from recycled glass, and is reusable once the candle has burned out. For instructions on how to clean it out, you can click here.
The wax of this special partnership is hand-poured by the artisans of Prosperity Candle. All members of this community are Burmese refugees that have resettled in Southampton, Massachusetts. Not only does Prosperity Candle provide its artisans with living wages, but it also gives them the opportunity to advance in the company. Their website tells the story of Moo Kho, who joined Prosperity Candle as an apprentice candle maker, and in four years was promoted to Production Manager with a stake in the company.
The wax is ecofriendly as well, made from a soy blend with cotton wick, which provides it with a guaranteed 50 hours of burn time.
